Grants for Education

Funding materials, projects, and experiences to support Cardinal

The Grants for Education Program supports student development by funding materials, projects, and experiences that extend beyond those provided by Arlington Public Schools.

The committee is comprised of parent volunteers who meet each grant review period to solicit grant applications, determine approval, and distribute funds to grant recipients.

Funding and Evaluation Periods

Thanks to the generous support of the Cardinal PTA community, the Grants for Education committee has a budget of $10,000 for the 2022-23 school year.

Application deadlines for this year’s two review periods were: September 27 and January 25.  Please note all funds allotted for this school year have been awarded over these two evaluation periods.

Application guidelines

  • The purpose of the Cardinal PTA is to support the welfare of the students and staff of Cardial Elementary School.  All grants should support one or more of the PTA’s goals of giving students confidence to succeed, encouraging them to be creative, or emphasizing the importance of character.
  • Grants may be requested by any individual staff member, team of educators, or student group at Cardinal.  New teachers are encouraged to apply.
  • For the 2022-23 school year, the PTA budgeted a total of $10,000 for Education Grants.  The deadline for submitting a grant request for the first evaluation period was September 27; the deadline for the second evaluation period was January 25.  All funds allotted for this school year have been awarded over these two evaluation periods.
  • Applicants may submit one grant request per evaluation period to benefit an individual classroom.  Applicants may submit multiple grant requests per evaluation period to benefit an entire grade, multiple grades, or the school as a whole.  An applicant that submits a request to benefit an individual classroom may also submit requests to benefit an entire grade, multiple grades, or the school as a whole.
  • Grant request forms will be routed to the principal for approval before they will be considered by the PTA Education Grants Committee.
  • Applicants should indicate whether the activity could proceed with partial funding if funding is not granted at the requested level.
  • Grant requests for more than $1,000 must be approved by the PTA at large after recommendation by the PTA Education Grants Committee.
  • Applicants will indicate the date funding is needed to indicate if a project is time sensitive.
  • Grant recipients should be prepared to provide detailed information to the PTA about the benefits of the grant as well as how the benefits can be shared or replicated within the Cardinal community, if applicable.
  • Applicants are encouraged to attach relevant documentation to their application form to support the amount of the requested grant, if such documentation is available.
  • Grant recipients will have to provide to the PTA Treasurer the name of a third party organization to whom the grant check should be issued or, if the grant recipient is requesting that the check be issued directly to him or her as a reimbursement, a copy of an invoice indicating that the recipient has already paid for the approved materials.
  • If requests exceed available funds, the PTA Education Grants Committee will review and rank applications by need and the number of students to benefit as primary criteria and will approve the highest ranked applications.
